For instance, did the characters change in your head after seeing the film? I know my Edward didn't look like Rob before, and I still catch myself thinking of him the way I did before.
Were any scenes changed for you? Seeing the van scene played out made it seem so much more vivid to me.
Do you think the book translated well to the movie? What shouldn't they had done? What should they have done differently? For me, I know a movie is different, but there were some liberties taken with the sequence of events that bothered me.
Thoughts?
Will post more later, but one thing I really missed in the movie was Bella talking in her sleep. I felt that was a large, important part of the book and it was completely left out.
ReplyDeleteBut now Edward looks like RP in my head and bella like the actress haha.
The sequence that bothered me was this:
ReplyDeleteIn the book, it happens like this:
1. Bella talks to Jacob, who tells her the Cullens are the mythical "cold ones."
2. Bella researches and confirms in her own mind that Edward is a vampire.
3. Edward saves Bella in Port Angeles, they have dinner together, which really begins their relationship, but Bella already knows he's a vampire.
4. Edward decides to show her the meadow on their first official date.
The fact that the movie changed this sequence bothered me. Bella only found out in the movie after she was already involved with Edward, to some extent, which I think changed the whole dynamic.
RE: the van scene, I was disappointed in the movie. Meyer makes the van scene on par with the car-scene-falling-out-of-the-tree scene in Jurassic Park, where it seems the car has a life of its own and seems to be malevolently pursing Allan Grant and the child, consciously bent on their destruction. Meyer achieves that in the van scene. It's more than just here comes the van and Edward stops it. He saves her it seems like three different times and the van just keeps coming after her like her time is up and the van won't stop until she's crushed. I didn't get that feeling from the movie sequence.
ReplyDeleteI (for some strange reason) haven't reread the book since seeing the movie, but I don't think it'll have too much of an impact on my reading, aside from a sense of relief that things are as they should be again :)
ReplyDeleteI felt that the movie just didn't capture the tone of the book in general. I'll spare everyone the itemized list of things that were wrong, because I know I'm just way too picky about that kind of thing.
Aside from a few particular scenes that I missed, I felt like the movie just didn't capture Edward and Bella's love for each other. We got a lot of angst and one really hot makeout scene, and that's it???
The thing that kinda confused me was that, bellas supposed to have no neighbours, but in the movie her house is on a very crowded street, Though, The house was exactly like i'd imagined it, so ill give them that.
ReplyDeleteI thought they should have the campfire scene in La Push, rather than them sitting in a van etc. But i guess you cant have everything the same, (time wise, otherwise the movie would hae been a couple hours long.. - Though you wouldnt have found me complaing if it was :] )
& The medow scene was really rushed, Like how it took place after/during school, in the forest and happend really quickly. All in all, The first time i watched twilight i loved it. And the second & the third. I own the dvd and have only watched it a couple times. I'm over it and cant wait for New Moon to hit cinemas, Hopefully Chris Weitz (New Director) Can pull something brilliant together.
